New Coated Cermet T2500Z Sumitomo

Sumitomo Electric has developed a new coated grade of cermet for machining steels T2500Z. The new grade provides longer tool life and better stability when machining carbon and alloy steels.

Excellent quality of machined surfaces
The new substrate with excellent thermal conductivity improves resistance to thermal cracking and flank wear. Sumitomo Electric has achieved low reactivity with workpiece materials by using the new Brilliant Coat coating technology. This reduces adhesion and increases wear resistance. The new cermet provides high-quality surface finishes when machining carbon and alloy steels. Cutting speeds up to 300 m/min can be achieved with interrupted cutting and continuous cutting.

Excellent lubricity and wear resistance
The Brilliant Coat coating has excellent lubricity and significantly reduces reactivity with iron-based materials. This reduces chip formation and workpiece adhesion to the cutting tool. Less material tearing occurs during machining, and wear resistance is 1.5 times greater compared to conventional grades. The T2500Z grade ensures shiny machined surfaces and longer tool life during finishing operations.
